Galloway & Argyll walking tour 16-23 August now with 10% discount

We have had a very good start of our season. The people that ljoined our walking holidays the past months enjoyed perfect weather for walking: dry and sunny, but not too hot.

The weather here is now a bit back to what we usually have this time of the year: sunshine and showers. This makes the Scottish Highlands even more dramatic and the light is at its best.

There is a lot of interest for our walking holidays this year and as a consequence we only have spaces left in one holiday:
16-23 August - Galloway & Argyll walking tour and we offer 10% discount (B&B) if you decide to join this holiday.

However, if you plan to come with 4 or more people, please get in touch with the dates you want to come and the holiday you would like to do and we might be able to add this holiday to our programme.

You can also still book our self-guided walking holiday "The Cowal Way". You can start on any day you want. Minimum 2 people.

Walking holiday in May or June

May and June are the best months to come on a walking holiday in Scotland. In general it is a little less rainy in May and June than it is in succeeding months and usually mild, but we must admit that the trouble with the West Highlands is that the general is a pretty poor guide. However, we consider these months as our "summer". In May and June the wild life and wild flowers are at their best, which will make your experience something special.

We still have spaces in some holidays in May and June, please contact us

New for 2008: Galloway & Argyll walking tour

Our new guided walking tour to Galloway & Argyll gives you the unique opportunity to get to know two Scotlands in just one week.

We start the week in Galloway with its rounded hills and spectacular coast along the Solway Firth. Our walks will take us into both and we will explore the history of this area along the way.

We will spend the second half of the week in Argyll in the Highlands where we will explore the moors and visit a historic township. On the last day we will take a boat across Loch Lomond and walk the most spectacular section along Loch Lomond of the West Highland Way.

As with all our holidays, the week starts and ends in Glasgow.

We will go to Galloway this winter to explore the walks in order to make sure that they will offer the mixture of nature, history and geology we are always looking for.

Silver Green Tourism award for About Argyll

About Argyll Walking Holidays has joined the Green Tourism Business Scheme and has received a Silver Award for good environmental practice and commitment to reducing the impact of our business on the environment.

Our holidays take you into the fragile and sensitive landscape of the Scottish Highlands and Islands where you will certainly see lots of wildlife and wildflowers. The Scottish Highlands and Islands are one of the few places left in Europe where you can find such an abundance of wild places and we must protect these for the future. Therefore, we are committed to a responsible approach by reducing our impact to the area and contributing to its conservation.

In our office we aim to be as energy efficient as possible and all the paper we use is recycled, comes from sustainable resources and is chlorine-free.

We compensate for the carbon emissions of our minibus by donating a tree for every guided holiday to Trees for Life, which will use it for restoration of the Caledonian Forest which once covered most of the Highlands.

We started our business 11 years ago because we wanted to share our love of Scotland with you. We have run our business in a sustainable way and we are pleased that our good practice has merited a Silver Award under the Green Tourism Business Scheme.

Wear gaiters during the walks

We advice our clients and anyone who goes walking in Scotland, wearing gaiters all the time. Ticks are abundant on rough ground. Ticks are known to transmit several diseases including Borreliosis (Lyme disease). Gaiters prevent ticks from crawling into your trousers and they prevent that your trousers will get wet from the undergrowth.

If you don't use gaiters, tuck your trousers into your socks.

For more information about ticks and the risks they impose, download the pdf-leaflet of BADA (Borreliosis and Associated Disease Awareness).
